Pakistan’s parliament emerged triumphant from protests: WSJ analysis

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s parliament is emerging as the main beneficiary from the protests in the federal capital which are now weakening, said an analysis printed in the Wall Street Journal.

The analysis quotes the head of Gallup Pakistan Ijaz Gilani as saying: “The winner is parliament. Never before has the parliament stood up to defend civilian supremacy and the constitution.”
According to the analysis, Gallup polling found that constant airing of Imran Khan’s message on local TV channels hasn’t increased his following. Polling suggests the crisis has solidified existing support for Khan but turned opinions of others firmly against him.
The polling further found that two weeks into the protest, Imran Khan’s approval rating fell to 34 percent from around 50 percent at the start of 2014.
