Govt asked to identify law limiting spending on PM’s tours

LAHORE: Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the federal government to identify the law, if any, that barred the prime minister and other public representatives from spending beyond certain amount from the national exchequer on their foreign tours.
While hearing a petition of Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree Shah directed the federal government to apprise the court till November 12 about the law that laid down a restriction on expenditures of public representatives on foreign tours. On the previous hearing on October 13 he had directed the federal government to submit details of the expenses incurred on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent visit to New York, US, with his family members and personal servants. A law officer on Thursday informed that details of PM’s New York visit could not be presented in the court as the petitioner has not sought this relief.
The judge remarked that the court had passed an explicit order on last hearing wherein details of PM’s New York visit were sought. He again sought information from the federal government and directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure appearance of its representative. The petitioner had submitted that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was making foreign visits along with his family members and personal servants in special plane, his stay at expensive hotels and business deal for personal gain. He said that PM Nawaz was wasting the public money for personal interest, which should not be allowed. He requested that the mental examination of PM Nawaz should conducted as he many times took a ban image to the country by serving people locally food items in foreign counties. He also requested to put PM and his family names on Exit Control List.
