Imran Khan for ‘poll rigging’ probe under SC commission
RAHIMYAR KHAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan Sunday dropped the demand of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation and proposed a new programme to end the political stalemate.
Addressing a public rally here at Khawaja Farid College ground, Imran Khan proposed to get the charges of rigging probed through a judicial commission formed under the Supreme Court. The commission, he said, should also include members from ISI and MI.
He said the government has time till November 30 to form this commission tasked to complete its investigation in 4 to 6 weeks. The head of the commission can be appointed through mutual consensus, he added.
Imran said his party’s ongoing sit-in will continue as it is during the period of the probe and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif can also continue to remain in his office. And if rigging was proved you (PM) will have to resign and organize mid-term elections under a reconstituted Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he added.
He said his party will not accept ECP that is formed under ‘Muka Muka’ and rejected the name of Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani as the new CEC.
Before presenting his new proposal, he hurled serious allegations of corruption and unscrupulous practices against Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
He said we have a right to know how much tax Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari pay and what is the worth of their assets outside Pakistan. “They don’t declare their assets because they were acquired through wealth amassed through illegal means,” he snapped.
He said Pakistanis are paying the price of the rulers’ ‘theft’ in the form of exorbitant electricity bills.
Imran Khan said Allah Almighty had blessed me with everything and I have nothing to lose if I choose to walk away from the sit-ins. “I have been staging the sit-in because I want justice,” he added.
The burden of debt is mounting on every Pakistani and as of today this burden has hit Rs90,000 per person.
He said all elections except for the one of 1971 were rigged.
He said had ‘Mian sahib’ been clean he would have launched a probe into the election results of four constituencies. “We went to the Supreme Court but ‘the match fixer Chaudhry Iftikhar did not dispense justice.”
He said even after a lapse of eighteen months no action was taken, forcing us to come out stage peaceful protest to get justice.
Imran siad in 2003 elections both the winners and losers complained of rigging and reiterated his claim that a transparent probe was not possible with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in office.
He claimed that government was set to commit another ‘big robbery’ in the form of coal-powered electricity plants. “The electricity generated through coal will be so expensive, it will make it impossible for an average Pakistani to afford it.”
Earlier, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said his party wants a Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) who enjoys everyone’s trust and that any ‘Muk Muka’ (secret deal) in the appointment of the CEC will not be acceptable.
He told Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman to brace himself for a ‘Tsunami’ set to reach Larkana on November 21.
