Nawaz to meet Merkel during his official tour to Germany
PM to meet German parliament’s president, to address business forum during two-day stay

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for Germany on Monday on a two-day official visit at the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

During his visit, the prime minister would hold talks with Chancellor Merkel that would be followed by a lunch in his honour, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said on Sunday. Thereafter, he will meet president of the German parliament.

Nawaz would also address a Business Forum, organised by the Pakistan Board of Investment, which is expected to be attended by a large number of business executives and investors. She said that the visit of the prime minister would help in strengthening the existing ties between the two countries.

Pakistan and Germany enjoy close and cordial relations. Germany is Pakistan’s fourth largest trading partner globally and the largest in the EU. Pakistan’s bilateral trade with Germany stands at 2.5 billion dollars annually. The two countries have a strong collaboration in various other fields.

There is also a strong Pakistani Diaspora of over 70,000 living in Germany. In addition, there are more than 2,300 students from Pakistan in different German universities.
