PM Nawaz arrives in Germany on 2-day official visit

BERLIN: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Monday said his visit to Germany will further strengthen the bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

“We will explore new avenues of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefit,” Prime Minister Sharif told media upon arrival here on a two-day official visit.

Earlier, the Prime Minister who is visiting Germany on the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel was accorded a warm red carpet welcome.

He said Pakistan can benefit a lot through increased trade and economic cooperation and by attracting investment from Germany whose annual exports runs in trillions.

Prime Minister Sharif said, during the visit, he will hold talks with Chancellor Merkel and will also meet with President of the German Bundestag (Parliament).

To a question, the Prime Minister termed his visit to China very productive and said the close and fraternal ties that existed between Pakistan and China over the last six decades have gained strength through enhanced trade and economic cooperation.

He said the signing of bilateral agreements between Pakistan and China worth billions of dollars would have far reaching effects. The Prime Minister said due to these agreements Pakistan would gain economic strength over the next five to ten years.

He said the whole nation instead of wasting their energies in sit-ins should focus on the efforts to achieve economic progress and to help address the problems of unemployment and energy shortages. “This is the path on which we cannot move by sit-ins,” the Prime Minister remarked.
