SC refers PM disqualification case to Chief Justice
QUETTA: The Supreme Court on Monday referred the prime minister disqualification case to the Chief Justice, stating that he may constitute a bench if necessary.
The petition seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was heard by a three-member bench on Monday at the Quetta Registry.
During proceedings the court, in its order, said a comprehensive decision under Articles 62 and 63 was necessary.
In the order it was recommended that three senior lawyers, Raza Rabbani, Hamid Khan and Khawaja Harris should represent the court.
Earlier, the Attorney General stated the Lahore High Court had already dismissed the petition terming it a political issue.
Replying to this, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that the issue is of fundamental nature and would be reviewed following Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
During the last hearing, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja had remarked the court would ensure that any ruling into the petition came from the Balochistan registry.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf counsel Irfan Qadir had said that he would not be traveling to Quetta.
The lawyer had further said that he would file a review petition as he didn’t see the top court delivering justice.Courtesy www.thenews.com.pk
