Imran should not drag national institutions into political dispute: Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s demand of including ISI and MI officials in the judicial commission to probe election rigging was incomprehensible.

Iqbal said the PTI chairman should not drag national institutions into political controversy. “The allegation of election rigging is not terrorism; it is a political dispute between two parties. On one side is parliament and on the other Khan sb.”

The federal minister added that there were two probable results of including the MI and ISI officials in the probe. “The first result would be that the MI and ISI would say that rigging took place. This would lead to people accusing the MI and ISI of being PTI supporters.”

The second result according to Iqbal would be that the ISI and MI would say there was no rigging which could lead to Imran Khan insulting these national institutions like he has insulted former Chief Justices Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and former Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim.
