PM sets up committee on gas shortage for Punjab textile industry

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday constituted a committee headed by Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar to finalize proposals for resolving the issue of gas shortage for textile industry in Punjab during winter.

Other members of the Committee include Ministers for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi, the PM’s Office statement said.

The representatives of textile industry identified by the government of Punjab will also be included in the committee along with any other member co-opted by the chair.

The committee has been tasked to propose mechanisms for sustainable gas supply to textile industry of Punjab in winter months for addressing low pressure of gas for industry in Punjab and for resolution of any other relevant issue.

The committee shall initiate work immediately and shall submit its report on urgent basis.
