PM, ISI chief discuss how to deal with militant hide-outs in settled areas

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, the director general of the Inter Service Intelligence (ISI), on Saturday morning.

General Akhtar, who took office on November 7, discussed with Nawaz the situation in North Waziristan and the role ISI can play in putting an end to the cross border militant infiltration. This was the first meeting between the prime minister and Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar after he took office as the director general.

They further discussed what role the ISI can play in improving the overall law and order situation in Pakistan. The prime minister and the ISI chief also discussed the possibilities of how to deal with militant hide-outs in settled areas other than the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA).

Nawaz lauded the services of the ISI and said that it was the first defence line of Pakistan’s defence. He asked General Akhtar to pay close attention to locating and hitting the dens of militants.
