Govt providing maximum budget for education: Mujtaba

LAHORE – Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that the government was providing maximum budget for the provision of modern education facilities to the people.

Expressing these views at the foundation stone laying ceremony of new library at British Council here on Sunday, he said that Rs 274 billion have been provided which is 26.25 per cent of the total budget of the province. He said that special emphasis were being given to establish libraries on modern lines to provide research facilities to young generation. He said that two billion rupees have been reserved during current fiscal year for achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

He said that terrorism and unemployment can be wiped out by promoting education and provision of jobs to the youth. He said that during current fiscal year laptops and solar lamps were being distributed among the students on merit under a transparent system. British Council Chief Executive Sir Martin Davidson also spoke on the occasion.
