Three-day conference on energy starts in Islamabad
*President calls efficient energy generation vital for economic progress *Air chief asks world to set aside misperceptions about Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain has said that efficient energy generation and management system is indispensable for economic progress of Pakistan.

Opening a three-day international conference on energy systems and policies here on Monday, he pointed out that the energy shortage has adversely affected the life of a common man and the economy with impact on national security. He noted that the government has started several hydro, solar and coal-based projects, which are also important for diversification of energy mix.

Addressing the conference, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt said that Pakistan has requisite human resources to overcome the energy crisis. He said that the international community should also set aside their misperceptions about Pakistan and come forward for assistance to solve the problem.

In his remarks, Higher Education Commission Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad said that the universities should come up with solutions on the problems, including energy and water shortages, faced by Pakistan.
