Qatar desires to enhance naval ties with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Qatar Emiri Naval Forces (QENF) Commander Major General Mohammed Nasser Mubarak Al-Mohannadi called on Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday and expressed his country's desire to enhance naval relations with Pakistan.

"Naval relations between the two countries are growing satisfactorily. This time, two Pakistan-made missile craft boats will be participating in a naval exercise in Qatar. Even last year, Pakistan had biggest participation at the exercise. We want this relation to grow further," he added.

On desire of Qatar Naval commander for assistance in security matters, Khawaja Asif said, "We have well trained armed forces. We cannot only protect personnel, but are optimum in protecting installations. We fully understand that terrorists are friends to nobody."

The defence minister agreed to extend cooperation in military training saying, "Pakistan has well-trained, well-equipped armed forces, which are combating terror threat optimally." The two countries have ties of mutual brotherhood and Pakistan greatly values Qatar and its ruling hierarchy, added the minister.

The visit of Emir of the State of Qatar in March 2015 proved fruitful in enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Pakistan and Qatar greatly values the bilateral defence ties. Staff Talks is an established forum between the two armed forces, which will further strengthen the bilateral relations.

"QENF participation in Aman Exercises signifies cooperation and participation at naval end and Pakistan hopes to further translate this relation into broader spectrum," said the minister.
