CEC directs to overcome shortcomings in 2nd phase of LB polls

ISLAMABAD – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan on Wednesday issued directives for overcoming shortcomings in the second phase of local bodies (LB) elections in Punjab and Sindh.

He was chairing a meeting here at the Election Commission of Pakistan to review the first phase of elections held in the two provinces and the strategy to overcome any shortcomings/problems in the second phase. ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad apprised about achievements and difficulties faced in the first phase, printing of ballot papers, transportation of election material for the first phase and status of preparations for the second phase.

The additional secretary (training) informed the meeting about the training conducted so far which would continue in the second and third phases of the LB polls as well. Provincial election commissioners of Punjab and Sindh highlighted the hurdles faced during the first phase and recommended appropriate suggestions to overcome the same during the second and third phases.

The meeting was also informed about the up-gradation of electoral rolls and 8300 SMS for voters' facilitation. The chief election commissioner and the ECP members expressed satisfaction over the conduct of first phase with slight reservations. The meeting was attended by ECP members, provincial election commissioners and senior officers.
