ISLAMABAD - Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday called upon the federal capital police for following strictly the zero tolerance policy to control crimes and maintain law and order in the federal capital.

Presiding over a high-level meeting here at the Ministry of Interior, he said, “The improvement in crime control is not simply enough but the federal capital should be made crime free city.” He also directed the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to regulate the traffic flow and ensure traffic discipline properly besides ensuring the monitoring system smooth and effective.

The meeting was attended among others by Interior secretary, senior officials of Islamabad police, NADRA chairman, Islamabad commissioner and deputy commissioner and FIA officials.

During the meeting issues including the crime situation in the federal capital, Safe City Project and re-admission pact with European Union were also reviewed and discussed. The meeting also reviewed the comparison of the present crime situation and its situation few years back.

Nisar directed the senior officials to review the crimes situation on daily basis and present a report in this regard. He asked the police officers to determine their duties in their respected areas so that in case of any criminal activity the responsibility should be fixed.

The interior minister said that as compared to a few years back there has been a visible improvement in law and order situation but it is not enough as there is always room for improvement to make the capital city crime free. He directed the federal capital police to remain soft on citizens while dealing the criminals ruthlessly.

During the meeting, the interior minister also discussed the re-admission of pact with European Union which has been temporarily suspended recently. He said that the Interior Ministry in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry should formulate a comprehensive strategy in connection with deported people.

He said that before accepting the deported people, their nationality should be ensured and confirmed. He said that the Pakistani missions abroad without the approval of Interior Ministry should not issue temporarily travel documents to any deported person.

The minister for interior directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to establish special cells in order to get complete information regarding the deported persons. He said that on the basis of this information, those who would involve in sending of people abroad illegally, strict action should be taken against them.
