Mamnoon ready to mediate between Nawaz and Imran

ISLAMABAD: Amid growing conflict and confrontation between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over alleged rigging in elections, President Mamnoon Hussain has offered to mediate between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan.

While speaking to a private television channel on Wednesday, President Mamnoon invited the PTI chief to visit him at the President’s House.

“Imran Khan has never visited me; I invite him to meet me at the President House,” the president was quoted as saying by the TV channel.

“I will also invite the prime minister and am ready to mediate between the two to put an end to the politics of confrontation.”

In a meeting National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, President Mamnoon emphasized on upholding the supremacy and sovereignty of parliament and its role to enact laws for the betterment of the people of the country.

The president congratulated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on getting re-elected as speaker and hoped that his election would play a significant role in promotion of democratic values and traditions in the House.

The president noted that Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been elected by the House with heavy mandate adding that this is an important step toward democratic stability.

In a meeting with a delegation of China International Council, headed by Secretary General Song Wei Dong, President Mamnoon said that Pakistan-China friendship was exemplary in the world as it enjoyed complete support of the peoples and all institutions in both countries.

The president expressed satisfaction over the progress of work on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He appreciated the efforts of various Chinese ministries and institutions for their commitment in implementing the different projects under the umbrella of CPEC. The president noted that the economic corridor will provide a link to deliver goods to the international markets through the Gawadar Port and generate robust business and industrial activities not only in Pakistan and China but also in the whole region.
