Pakistan, Uzbekistan ink agreements, vow to strengthen ties

TASHKENT - Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Tuesday inked a joint communiqué and several memorandums of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation, avoid double taxation and collaboration in many areas.

After delegation level talks, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Uzbek President Islam Karimov inked the document besides witnessing the signing of agreements.

President Karmiov lauded the statesmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz and said that Pakistan was playing a key role in the region. He also appreciated Pakistan’s policy of pursuing peace, stability and regional connectivity.

Uzbek President also noted Pakistan’s road-map of enhancing trade and business ties with the Central Asian Republics (CARs). He expressed his hope that Prime Minister Nawaz’s visit would further boost bilateral ties between the two countries and help to explore new areas of cooperation.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he last visited Tashkent in June 1992, adding that Pakistan and Uzbekistan have historic and strong multifaceted ties. He said that his government was keen to enhance regional connectivity, through road links.
