PM stops PCB from sending team to India without govt’s permission
* Directs board not to hold talks with BCCI on restoration of cricketing ties * Nisar says India never responded to Pakistan’s peace overtures

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday conditionalised India tour of Pakistan cricket team with government’s permission.

According to reports, PM Nawaz directed the authorities concerned not to fix cricket team’s tour to India without government’s go-ahead. He also asked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) not to engage in any kind of talks with their Indian counterparts with regard to restoration of cricketing ties between the two countries. The premier clearly stated that Pakistan cricket team will not tour India without government’s permission. Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had said he will oppose Pakistan cricket team’s tour to India.

“I will oppose India’s offer of inviting Pakistan to the country,” said the interior minister, vowing to raise the matter with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He took strong exception to humiliating Indian posture towards Pakistanis. He said the prime minister would take final decision in this regard. “However, keeping in view the recent mistreatment of Pakistanis, including renowned Pakistani Singer Ghulam Ali and former foreign minister Khursheed Mahmood Kasuri in India, I would oppose Pakistan’s visit to India,” he told a select group of reporters in an informal talk at the Punjab House.

The minister said Pakistan has always extended hand of friendship to India “but our neighbour responded our gesture in a negative manner”. Strongly condemning the recent negative activities of Hindu extremist organisation Shiv Sena towards Pakistan and its people, Nisar said he would ask the government to raise the issue of Shiv Sena’s terror activities at international forums to press for declaring the group terrorist. He questioned Indian government why it did not take any action against extremists involved in mistreatment of Pakistanis in India.

The minister said he had also raised the negative attitude of Shiv Sena towards Muslims, including Pakistanis visiting India, with US Secretary of State Senator John Kerry during his tour to the United States. With regard to new policy on INGOs re-registration, he said this process is continuing and so far 10 INGOs have applied online with complete documents while around 100 INGOs have applied online for registration. “So far neither any INGO has been banned from working nor its registration rejected,” he remarked.

He said the new INGO policy would prove to be a milestone in promoting partnership between the government and INGOs. Nisar assured that services of INGOs serving the humanity in Pakistan would not only be acknowledged but also encouraged and supported by the government.
