RAWALPINDI - Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Monday met Chief of Joint Staff of Armed Forces of Brazil General José Carlos de Nardi, who hailed the Pakistan Army’s professionalism and operational achievements especially in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

According to a series of tweets posted by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa, General Raheel was presented a guard of honour and a 19-gun salute on his arrival at the Brazil Army Headquarters.

In his meeting with General Nardi, the army chief discussed matters concerning regional security and the emerging challenges faced by the region. Tactical Reconnaissance Group (TRG) exchanges were also discussed. At the Brazilian Army Headquarters, General Raheel discussed with the Brazil Army Command matters of mutual professional interest and military-to-military relations, said the ISPR spokesman.

The army chief arrived in Brazil after a five-day visit to Washington during which he met US Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter and other senior officials. From Brazil, he will go to Ivory Coast to spend a day with Pakistani troops who are serving there as part of the UN peace keeping force.

His meetings in the US focused on Pakistan-US relations, military to military ties, regional security and on the situation in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General Bajwa said earlier.
