Army will root out terrorism from Pakistan: COAS
RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif spent his Eid day on the front lines visiting troops participating in Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He offered his Eid prayer with troops at Wana, spent time with them and later flew to Miranshah to meet the troops based at North Waziristan.
According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, reviewing the progress of the operation, COAS expressed his complete satisfaction over the achievements made so far. While interacting with troops, COAS lauded their spirit and commitment in sustaining the operation with a remarkable degree of success.
With this level of determination shown by the Army and the people of Pakistan, there is no doubt that we will root out the cancer of terrorism from our country for ever, he said. He paid glowing tributes to Shuhada and the wounded, who have rendered supreme sacrifice for defence of the country.
Later, while visiting IDP Camp Bannu, COAS acknowledged sacrifices of the people of FATA and praised their devotion, faith and loyalty with Pakistan. “Pakistan Army will work hand in gloves to garner maximum support for relief and early rehabilitation of TDPs,” COAS assured.
Realizing the need to mainstream youth of FATA and optimize their potential, COAS announced a comprehensive “FATA Youth Package”. While elucidating the cardinals of the “FATA YOUTH PACKAGE” COAS said that 14 thousand men from FATA will be inducted in the Army in next five years. Immediately, one thousand youth will be inducted in first six months. Free education facilities to 1,500 children from FATA will be provided in Army public Schools & Colleges in all cantonments.
Seats have also been reserved in Military Cadet Colleges for students from FATA on yearly basis. To enhance technical skills and making them vibrant citizens of Pakistan, FATA youth, especially TDPs, will be provided training at Technical Training Institutes being run by Army in all major cantonments. COAS said that arrangements are being worked for large scale overseas employment of youth from FATA.
COAS hoped that development and prosperity of FATA will open avenues for the local people and contribute towards a peaceful and progressive Pakistan.
Earlier on arrival, COAS was received by Lieutenant General Hidayat ur Rehman, Commander 11 Corps, at Wana, Waziristan.
