Khursheed Shah rules out mid-term elections

SUKKUR: Ruling out mid-term elections in the country, Opposition leader in National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah said either the government will complete its term or a new dispensation will take reins of power to the detriment of the country.

Talking to Geo News here at his residence after saying his Eid prayers, Khursheed Shah said the fault lies with our politicians for depriving the country of democracy for a better part of its history. But, in the same breath, he added that whatever remains of Pakistan its credit also goes to the politicians.

“Pakistan witnessed (true) democracy only for a period of 10-11 years and after that it was only a controlled-democracy,” he observed, holding the politicians responsible for it.

Therefore, he warned, that no such game be played which damages the integrity of the country.

He said today’s youth are the custodians of Pakistan future and they must know that politics cannot be done with the help of variety programmes and ‘Bhangra’ (Punjabi dance).

Khursheed Shah said be it a martial law or terrorism, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is the only party which whole-heartedly represented the people of the country.

He said in case of PPP’s win in the next elections, its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be the prime minister of the country.
