President, PM dub Malala “pride of Pakistan”

ISLAMABAD – President Mamnoon Hussain also felicitated Malala on winning Noble Peace Prize and lauded the courage of young girl who refused to be intimidated by the extremists and continued her struggle for girls' right to education.

The president said that the award was a moment for pride for the entire nation, Malala's parents and her colleagues. He said that Malala symbolises keenness of Pakistan's girls to seek education for their real empowerment and rejection of all kinds of discrimination and exploitation.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also congratulated teenage education campaigner Malala Yousafzai on winning the Nobel Peace Prize, calling her the pride of Pakistan “She is the pride of Pakistan. She has made her countrymen proud. Her achievement is unparalleled and unequalled. Girls and boys of the world should take the lead from her struggle and commitment,” he said in a statement.

Ahmed Shah, Malala’s school teacher and uncle said, “Malala is a pride for Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan,” “She raised her voice for the injustices in a society where women cannot even speak.” Ayesha Khalid, who was at school with Malala, said. “It´s not Malala alone winning this award, the girls of Pakistan have won it. Malala is the light of our eyes and the voice of our heart”, she said. “She has proved that you cannot put a halt to education by blowing up schools.”

Meanwhile political leaders Asif Ali Zardari, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Altaf Hussain, Imran Khan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Assefa Bhutto, Marvi Memon, women’s rights activist Farzana Bari and others have also congratulated Malala for winning Nobel Peace Prize.
