ISLAMABAD – Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Barjees Tahir has said that India is taking lives of innocent citizens by firing on areas along the Working Boundary and Line of Control (LoC) in the divided state of Jammu Kashmir.

Talking to journalists here, he said that Indians were worried over the historic address of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the United Nations General Assembly. The minister asked India to immediately stop firing on innocent civilians along the Working Boundary and LoC.

He said that India has been denying right to self-determination to Kashmiris according to the UN Security Council resolutions. He said that India claimed to be the biggest democracy of the world but it was not emulating the United Kingdom, which bowed before the will of Scots and conducted a referendum in Scotland.

“The UN should play its role on the Kashmir issue and force India to accept the UN resolutions,” he said. Barjees also said that it was responsibility of the world community and institutions to play an effective role in resolving the Kashmir issue according to the UN resolutions.

He said that it was unfortunate that the civilized world, including the UN, US and Europe had failed to play their role in this regard. He also said that if the Kashmir issue was not resolved then it would be considered failure of the UN.
