Pakistan, Iran to discuss gas pipeline, electricity in Islamabad soon

WASHINGTON – Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Ishaq Dar has called on Iran’s Minister for Finance Ali Tayyebnia on the sidelines of the World Bank/IMF meetings here in the US.

Dar conveyed personal regards of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the president and the supreme leader of Iran. Both the ministers agreed to hold Joint Economic Commission in Islamabad soon, with particular focus on gas pipeline and electricity, to consolidate the bilateral cooperation as agreed between the leaderships of the two countries. The finance minister informed the government had approved the 700 kilometers section of the pipeline from Gwadar to Nawabshah and that Pakistan was considering various alternatives to meet the financial requirements.

The Iranian finance minister appreciated the resolve of Pakistan in completing 700km portion of Iran-Pakistan Gas pipeline and expressed hope that in future more pipeline projects between the two countries, may materialise. Ali Tayyebnia expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s resolve in forging long term cooperation between the two countries. He especially mentioned positive attitude demonstrated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for boosting ties between the two countries.
