Cabinet, assemblies endorsed Musharraf’s decision to suspend constitution: Naseem

ISLAMABAD: A three-member special bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab resumed hearing the treason case of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

During proceedings Musharraf counsel, Farogh Naseem argued that if Pervez Musharraf suspended the constitution then it was endorsed by the federal cabinet and assemblies. If his supporters and helpers are not tried then it will be in contradiction of Article 25. The prosecution did not present evidence in court in this case.

In a petition to include the names of former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and other civil and military officials in the treason case, Pervez Musharaf’s council Farogh Naseem said that the federal cabinet supported and endorsed the measures taken for the implementation of emergency.

He said that the violation of the constitution and revolt are measures that cannot be taken individually and all others involved should also be tried for treason. There is no difference in committing a crime and endorsing it.

Justice Faisal argued that in case of a murder does the aide also get the same punishment?

Barrister Nasim replied that there is a difference in the nature of crimes. He also pleaded that the case against his client should be dismissed.
