ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah made a telephonic contact and discussed the appointment of chief election commissioner (CEC) on Wednesday, Geo News reported.

According to sources, Shah expressed his views regarding the Supreme Court deadline and appointment of CEC. He stated that CEC should be appointed after the electoral reforms.

He also suggested that the condition of being a Supreme Court judge to be appointed as CEC should be abolished and any eligible politician or bureaucrat should also be considered for appointment.

He further told that as an opposition leader, he will submit his reply in the Supreme Court.

It may be mentioned that Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday had ordered the federal government to appoint a new election commissioner by October 28.
