ECP takes notice of code of conduct breach in NA-149

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission on Wednesday took notice of the breach of conduct in NA-149 after pamphlets in favour of Javed Hashmi were distributed in the constituency.

A spokesman for the ECP said the breach will be brought to the attention of senior officials in writing. The spokesman added that violation of the code of conduct may result in a six month prison sentence and/or Rs 1,000 fine for the candidate.

Earlier, pamphlets in favour of Javed Hashmi were airdropped in different areas of Multan after campaigning in NA-149 had officially concluded.

According to Civil Aviation sources, a person whose identity remains unknown paid Rs 30,000 to airdrop the pamphlets.

Hashmi said the distribution of pamphlets was not election but rather an advertising campaign. The senior political told reporters that in 2012 the ECP had allowed Tahirul Qadri to conduct an advertising campaign.
