Shahbaz reviews flood compensation payment programme

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that worst flood of the history caused massive destruction and loss to crops, cattle, properties and infrastructure in various areas of Punjab.

He said this while presiding over a meeting here, which reviewed the programme of payment of second installment of financial assistance for compensation of losses of the houses, crops and livelihood to the flood affectees on the basis of survey.

He said that thousands of human lives were saved due to timely steps of Punjab government, adding that the process of payment of first installment for compensation of losses to the affectees has been completed in days and not in months as per promise in the first phase.

He said that speedily payment of first installment in a transparent manner to the flood affectees is a revolution. He said that the government will spare no effort in the rehabilitation of flood affectees.

The chief minister said that financial assistance will also be given to those who have lost their livelihood, adding losses of cattle will also be compensated.

He said that all deserving persons will be provided their right. The chief minister directed that the losses of crops and houses should be estimated on the basis of survey and programme of payment regarding second installment of compensation should be given a final shape at the earliest.

He said that flood water should immediately be drained out and the spray should be carried out on daily basis in such areas for eradication of viral diseases.

Shahbaz said that third party audit of survey of losses will be carried out, adding payment of financial assistance to the affectees is being made through a transparent and foolproof system and no deserving person will be deprived of his right.

He expressed that his anguish over lack of comprehensive planning and delay in some matters and reprimanded the concerned officials. He directed that concerned departments and officers should work hard with devotion and dedication for the rehabilitation of flood affectees.

He said that all concerned officials should discharge their duties with the same spirit as was shown during rescue and relief operation for the flood affectees.

He directed that ministers and secretaries of the concerned departments should personally give briefing in the next meeting.

Director General PDMA gave a briefing on the method of payment of financial assistance in the second phase.

Provincial Ministers Shuja Khanzada, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, MPA Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, chief secretary, senior member Board of Revenue, chairman Planning and Development, secretaries of concerned departments and senior officers attended the meeting.
