Bill burnt to prevent power tariff hike: Imran
staff report/online

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that his action to burn the electricity bill helped prevent further raise in power tariff.
“Nawaz Sharif in collusion with the IMF was hell bent to increase power tariff by 80 percent. As if the already skyrocketing hike in the power prices was not enough,” Khan deplored while addressing his supporters at the PTI protest campaign site.
“Had I not burnt the electricity bill, the government would not have felt the pressure not to increase the power tariff. They are all set to give unprecedented raise in power prices.”
Referring to the disruption of power connection to his house by IESCO, Imran Khan said, “I don’t care. Allah has been very kind and the weather has changed. Nobody needs AC or heater these days. It’s so pleasant.”
Imran Khan said accountability of politicians be carried out irrespective of their party or political affiliations.
“The corrupt elements from each and every party should be spotted and taken to task no matter which parties they represent. No one is above the law.”
Meanwhile, calling for the strictest punishment regardless of their political affiliations, Imran Khan demanded that the government present the murderers of party leader Zehra Shahid before the media. “Zehra Shahid’s killers are in the custody of police. Justice should be served on them without fearing backlash from any political party,” the PTI leader said.
He alleged that Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had been making a fool out of this nation by taking turns. “I just cannot imagine how much more money these leaders want to make,” Khan said. Returning fire after being fired upon by Zardari, Khan said that very soon, ‘go Nawaz go’ slogan would echo in the PPP’s public rallies.
