UCH SHARIF: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to first bring development and improvement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the party is in power before raising the “Naya Pakistan” slogan.
“First focus on making the KPK a model of development and progress from where you have got votes. The province, at present, is witnessing unprecedented poor state of governance,” the prime minister said while addressing the flood-affected persons at Mauza Bait Bakhtiari of Uch Sharif in Ahmedpur Sharqia Tehsil. The prime minister spoke about the “double standards” of protesting political parties whose political activities he said were confined to their air-conditioned containers and “palaces” in Islamabad.
He called upon the “politicians of sit-ins” to shun politics of negativity and join the government in its continuing efforts for a strong and stable Pakistan. “If they care about the poor, they must come forward and join the people in distress and get knowledge about their problems.” Such politicians did not want the problems of poor get resolved, while their children got a better lifestyle, Nawaz Sharif added. “They do not want schools and hospitals for a common man. What they want is only the resignation of Nawaz Sharif, who has the support of a majority of masses,” he said.
He said about 16 million people voted for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz while those demanding his resignation were numbered around 10,000 to 30,000. The prime minister vowed to set an example of development and progress in his five-year tenure, which he said would usher in an era of prosperity. He said the country would be rid of lawlessness and crime. About relief and rehabilitation activities in the wake of recent floods, Nawaz said the ongoing survey of damages to houses and crops would give a proper estimate about the losses.
He said his visit to Uch Sharif was aimed at sharing the pain of affected people and provide them utmost assistance. Nawaz Sharif said his heart beat with the flood-hit people and he would not abandon them in difficult times. “My conscience does not allow me to sit and watch the situation from Islamabad, neither Shahbaz Sharif will restrict himself to Lahore while the people suffer from floods,” he said. The prime minister said that he would not take rest till the complete revival of lives of the people in flood-hit areas.
He said that first instalment of the financial assistance worth Rs 25,000 has been provided to each of the flood-hit people, adding that the next round of assistance to the people would begin from October 20. Nawaz Sharif said his government was making sincere efforts to overpower energy crisis which he described as the biggest challenge confronting Pakistan. About other development projects, he said a power plant of 500 megawatt would supply electricity to the whole of Bahawalpur. Also, the Lahore-Karachi Motorway would touch Bahawalpur. He stated that Dasu and Bhasha dams would generate 9,000 megawatts of electricity which would easily overcome the shortfall of 5,000 megawatts in the country. Nawaz Sharif said that he does not want to “hit boundaries and sixes” as he has come out of his younger age. He said that others have also passed that age but still they want to hit boundaries and sixes.
