Punjab issues LG Ord 2014; Sindh to table in SA on 20th

LAHORE/KARACHI: Punjab issued the Punjab Local Government (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2014 on Wednesday while a relevant bill would be tabled in the Sindh Assembly on the 20th. Sindh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sikander Mendhro has said that the Sindh government has submitted the Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill-2014, to the Sindh Assembly Secretariat, in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In a statement on Wednesday, the provincial minister said that the Sindh LG Amendment Bill-2014 will be tabled before the Sindh Assembly on October 20. Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Wednesday signed the Punjab Local Government (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2014, a private news channel reported on Wednesday.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been given the authority of demarcation and preparation of electoral lists. The Punjab government has issued the ordinance after the signature. As per the Ordinance, the Election Commission of Pakistan has been authorised to carry out demarcation in the municipal committees, corporations and district councils. The election commission has also been authorised to prepare the electoral list. The commission will also be responsible to update the lists. The Election Commission of Pakistan will form the wards for the general seats of municipal committees and will also carry out delimitations of the union councils. The conflict arising of delimitation matters will be settled as per the federal law. The method of appeals will also be as per the federal law. The Punjab government decided to issue the ordinance after Supreme Court’s Order.
