By-poll exposes hypocrisy of PTI: Saad

LAHORE – Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said on Friday that by-elections of Multan had exposed hypocritic politics of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which supported Dogar who was a symbol of status quo.

In a statement, he said Javaid Hashmi was defeated but his politics based on principles and democracy had won, adding that it was his victorious defeat. He said an announcement of resignation from the National and Punjab assemblies on one side and participation in by-polls by the PTI under the same Election Commission on the other hand was hypocrisy, adding it should be remembered that it was the same Election Commission which had conducted the elections 2013 and the PTI was demanding its dissolution.

He said the PTI participated in the by-polls and its gathering on October 10 was part of the election campaign, adding that it was a seat of the PTI which was vacated by Javaid Hashmi and the PTI backed candidate gained 52,000 votes in by-polls as it had got 83,000 votes in the general elections. He said the number of votes of the PTI were squeezed and decreased to 52,000 and a shortage of 30,000 votes showed that its voters had rejected politics of sit-ins.

The minister said that the PTI had accepted the stance of Javaid Hashmi that change could be come only through ballot so there was no justification of resignation drama from assemblies. He urged Imran Khan to come to parliament by announcing the reversal of resignations and play his political and parliamentary role under democratic and constitutional principles.
