Resolving Kashmir issue pertinent for regional peace: Gen Raheel

KAKUL: Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif said on Saturday that resolving Kashmir issue is pertinent for long-term peace in the region, and that he desires for regional stability based on equality and mutual respect, Geo News reported.

Addressing a passing-out parade held at Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, General Sharif lauded the efforts of newly trained military personnel and awarded the outstanding cadets. A total of 1200 cadets passed out from the academy out of which 45 belonged to other countries.

General Sharif said the armed forces are fully capable of responding to any external threat and that they are not intimidated by any troubles. He said that the army is the symbol of national unity and hope and has always lived up to the expectation of its nation.

He further said that Zarb-e-Azb is not merely an operation but it is the nation’s expression of commitment against terrorism. He said that Pakistan wishes for peaceful relations based on regional stability, equality and mutual respect, however, it should not be doubted that it will respond to any provocation against the state.

The Army Chief also said that permanent regional peace is dependent on solving Kashmir issue.

Furthermore, he wished that the new political set up in neighbouring Afghanistan will bring peace and stability for its masses, and expressed his resolve that Pakistan Army will fully cooperate with Afghan security forces.
