ISLAMABAD: Seven universities from the United States on Saturday participated in a college fair at a local hotel to provide an opportunity to Pakistani students seeking admission in accredited US colleges and universities.
This year’s recruiting delegation included representatives from Valparaiso University, University of Northern Iowa, Savannah College of Art and Design, Hiram College,
New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering, Saint Peter’s University and Fairfield University.
The university representatives have already visited different schools and colleges in Karachi and Lahore. The tour organised by United States Educational Foundation (USEFP) and Education USA Advising, was designed as cultural experience besides providing recruiting opportunity to students.
This is the fifth USEFP-led South Asia tour to Pakistan in last four years, with the collaboration of the Education USA Advising. USEFP is a bi-national commission established in 1950 by the governments of Pakistan and the United States to promote mutual understanding between the people of both countries through educational and cultural exchanges.
The tour provided an opportunity to the general public as well as Pakistan’s brightest and best high school students to obtain first-hand information about academic and campus life at accredited US colleges and universities.
In addition to meeting prospective students, the university representatives interacted with many institutional counterparts in each city, including principals, counsellors, faculty and other administrative staff.
Educational USA Advising Manager Umair Khan welcomed the representatives of participating the US universities, several of whom have visited Pakistan in the past too.
He said: “Educational USA aims to connect students in Pakistan with US universities. The South Asian Tour is a great networking platform to develop ties. Pakistani students, along their parents, meticulously plan their higher education goal and are committed to earning a degree from the best educational institutions.
The US colleges and universities can meet those expectations.” He also discussed how today’s youth realise that earning a degree from reputable college or university was the first rung on the ladder to success. A large number of students participated in the event.
