‘Nilofar’ may affect coastal areas of Sindh, Balochistan

KARACHI - The deep depression formed over central western parts of the Arabian Sea has converted into a tropical cyclone Nilofar.

According to Meteorological Office, the cyclone may further intensify into a severe tropical cyclone during the next 36 to 48 hours. Talking to a private TV channel, Chief Meteorologist Touseef Alam said on Monday that heavy rain was expected in the coastal areas of Pakistan due to tropical cyclone “Nilofar”.

He said that the tropical cyclone was moving towards Oman and will weaken when it moves towards Pakistan. Alam further said that the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan can be affected by the cyclone. Rain is expected in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Nawabshah, KT Bandar and Jamshoro. According to the chief meteorologist, the cyclone would also impact Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Gujarat in India.

He also warned fishermen not to travel into the open sea during October 28-31. Alam said that the weather during the next two days would remain dry in Karachi while rain was expected after the cyclone hit the coastal areas turning the weather pleasant.

Thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds with isolated heavy falls are expected in lower Sindh including Karachi and coastal areas of Balochistan from Wednesday to Friday. The Meteorological Office has advised the fishermen and boatmen not to venture into the open sea during these days and return to coastal areas before Wednesday evening.
