PTI resignations to make ground for mid-term polls: jirga
*Siraj calls creation of several provinces unwise *Rehman asks govt, agencies to work together to avoid bloodshed during Muharram

ISLAMABAD - The opposition jirga on Wednesday warned the government against accepting resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, saying it would not result in the end of the current stalemate and will in fact complicate the matter further.

Along with Pakistan People’s Party leader Senator Rehman Malik, Jamat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq – who heads the jirga – told journalists following the meeting that the government would create an atmosphere for the mid-term election with acceptance of the resignations. He said that this time most of the responsibility would fall on the government.

He said that negotiations should take place between the government and the PTI as that was only option that remains. He was also against the creation of several provinces as proposed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and said that the decision would be unwise.

Rehman advised the government to make efforts to initiate negotiations with the PTI and if it refuses to, it provides a reason as to why. He said that he envisioned bloodshed in few days during the month of Muharram and appealed to the government and intelligence agencies to move forward and enhance their role.
