Govt asked to take up ‘war crime’ trials with OIC
Siraj announces ‘protest day’ on Friday against Nizami’s conviction

LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami leader Siraul Haq has appealed the nation to observe a ‘protest day’ on Friday against the death sentence announced in Bangladesh to Motiur Rahman Nizami – leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami – by a ‘so-called’ war crime tribunal.

The Jamaat would organise protest rallies in the provincial capitals and in districts all over Pakistan after Friday prayers to condemn the decision of the tribunal. Siraj asked the government to take up the issue of the Jamaat leaders' trials with the OIC and pressurize the Bangladesh government to stop the mock trials.

In a statement here, Siraj said that the Bangla government headed by Sheikh Haseena Wajed was victimising the Jamaat leaders and workers whose sole crime was that they supported a united Pakistan. He said all the allegations leveled against the Jamaat leaders were false and baseless. He said it was unfortunate that Pakistan, OIC and human rights bodies were completely silent on this issue.

Siraj expressed the hope that the people would join the protest in large numbers to express their resentment over the unjust treatment being meted out to the Islamic scholars and Jamaat leaders in Bangladesh.
