MQM-Pakistan has kept option to resign open: Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: MQM-Pakistan chief Dr Farooq Sattar condemned the arrest of Rabita Committee member Gul Faraz Khattak and threatened that the party would resign from all forums if illegal arrests of party workers did not stop.

Dr Farooq Sattar held a press conference to condemn the arrest of Rabita Committee member Gul Faraz Khattak, who had been picked up by law enforcement agencies.

"Gul Faraz Khattak was one of those who had condemned the August 22 speech," he said. "He was however arrested for being a facilitator of an instigating speech," he said.

He urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Information Minister Pervez Rasheed to take notice of such arrests and not only greet him warmly in meetings. Sattar said that if the current malicious activities against MQM-Pakistan would not cease, then the party might opt for the option to resign from all forums.

"We have the option with us to resign," he said. "MQM-Pakistan will resign when it deems fit to. If we resign, we will resign from every platform," he added.

He said that if MQM-Pakistan resigns from all platforms then it would leave the future of the Mohajir community to God. Farooq Sattar said that MQM-Pakistan had distanced itself from the London wing of the party after August 22 hence the two must not be considered as one.

"If you want to arrest us, then arrest each and every one of us together," he said. "Do not arrest us one by one rather take us into custody collectively," he said.
