Senate body defers ‘Panama Bill’ over lack of attendance

ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice deferred the ‘Panama Papers Inquiries Bill 2016’ on the opposition’s request on Thursday.

Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi – while chairing the committee –said that none of the movers, among the 41 parliamentarians, were present so the bill was referred on the request of opposition members.

The second agenda of considering Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatisation’s recommendation was also put off due to incomplete briefing. The chairman directed the movers to submit a detailed presentation on the agenda within one week.

Senator Saleem Zia, Senator Gianchand, Senator Senator Taj Haider, Senator Nawabzada Saifullah Magsi, Senator Ayesha Farooq, Senator Nihal Hashmi and Minister of Law and Justice – Zahid Hamid – were present in the meeting.
