CPEC’s completion to make Pakistan ‘most important in region’: Mamnoon

MUZAFFARABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Saturday that Pakistan would become the most important country in the region after the completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

He said – during a meeting with AJK’s Legislative Assembly’s members – that Pakistan including Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) would witness an unprecedented era of progress. AJK President Muhammad Masood Khan, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan and Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir were also present during the meeting.

President Mamnoon said that CPEC would open up new avenues for progress and the Gwadar Port would be fully functional by the end of this year.

“CPEC is a landmark project which included Gwadar airport, infrastructure and energy projects. Both Pakistan and AJK would get rid of the load-shedding problem when the on-going projects will be completed by 2018,” he said.

President Mamnoon viewed corruption as the basic cause of the nation’s retarding progress in the past and expressed satisfaction over the present government’s progress.

He urged the women to acquire education and play their due role in the development of the country while at the same time upholding their cultural values and traditions.

AJK’s president, prime minister and members of its Legislative Assembly apprised Mamnoon about their problems – particularly relating to financial limitations and lack of electricity – and that his visit would boost the Kashmiris’ morale and spirits.

Mamnoon assured them that he would play his due role in resolution of their problems and declared that he would help rebuilt one of the educational institutions in AJK destroyed during the 2005 earthquake out of the presidency’s official fund.
