Imprisoned Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik hospitalised in critical condition

ISLAMABAD: Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in held Kashmir on Saturday after his health condition deteriorated under custody.

He was being kept in solitary confinement after his arrest on July 8, the day Indian forces killed Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani in an encounter triggering massive protests in the occupied valley against Indian occupation.

Malik, the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Leader, is said to have been shifted to the ICU of Sher-e-Kashmir Medical Institute in Srinagar as his condition deteriorated on Saturday. Kashmir Media Service said he was advised by doctors to undergo a surgery.

Mishal Malik, wife of Yasin Malik, fell unconscious after hearing the news about deteriorating health condition of her spouse, family sources said.

Pakistan's Foreign Office also condemned the inhumane treatment being meted out to the Hurriyat leader.

"We deplore Indian forces torturous treatment of Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, reportedly in critical condition in ICU," Foreign Office spokesperson Nafeez Zakaria said in a statement.

"More than 150 [people] have been martyred, hundreds blinded by pellet guns & thousands injured in IoK since July 8... This must stop," he said.

The spokesman said:"Hurriyat leaders Geelani Sb & Mirwaiz remain in illegal detention & so does Kashmiri women leader Asiya Andrabi. This is highly deplorable.”
