Mushahid requests Speaker not to accept resignations of PTI lawmakers

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q leader, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said on Thursday that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif did not have any intention to enter politics and Parliament should play its role in resolving the crisis.

During his address on the third day of the joint session of Parliament, Mushahid Hussain stressed that civil-military relations had to improve, adding that the army and government needed to cooperate. “PM Nawaz and Army chief General Raheel Sharif have to work together.”

Mushahid Hussain requested the honourable speaker of the house not to accept the resignations of Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers.

During his speech, Mushahid Hussain urged that instead of looking into the past, efforts should be made to move forward and make a better future. He said that had the government, acted on time, issues could have been controlled.

Senator Mushahid Hussain said a large majority of Pakistan's population comprises young people who need change instead of just laptops. He said that the youth is aware of their rights and politics, and now want a better future.

He mentioned about the Baloch youth and said that some are living in the mountains, some joined Taliban and some have come to participate in the sit-in.

He also mentioned about the role of the independent media and said that Pakistan has multiple power centres now. “We have a very strong independent media which is also playing a role in politics."

The Senator also mentioned about the independent judiciary and said that it is not under the influence of the government or GHQ.

He further stated that the prime minister will have to act in the manner of mughal ruler or Mandela. He said that if we can hold dialogues with Narendra Modi and Taliban, then we can also hold talks with the people who are even nearer.

Mentioning about the improved political trends in neighbouring India and Turkey, Hussain said, "We have the example of Narendra Modi in front of us who was a tea seller, and Erdogan who took on the reins of Turkey despite the opposition of their country's military establishment."

Hussain urged for a change in the style of governance which should be more inclusive. He said that no single person can solve the issues of Pakistan instead everyone has to work together to solve the problems.
