Lawmaker praises PM’s decision to appoint Raheel as army chief

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) senior lawmaker Mushahid Hussain Syed while hailing the government decision to resume dialogue with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Thursday stressed the need to focus on resolving peoples issues and deliver.

Taking part in the discussion in the joint sitting of the parliament, “Pakistan is a product of democracy and it is the government's right decision to engage the protesters in dialogue. If the government could start talks with Narendra Modi and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan then why not with the PTI and the PAT,” he asked.

He said that democracy was our destiny and future and this was also vision of our founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said that it was a good omen that importance was being given to the parliament and the House and politicians played a significant role in the current political impasse.

Mushahid recalled the Salala incident and said in past the parliament took a unanimous decision which was not only accepted by the army, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the international community. He also lauded the speaker for giving floor to the PTI lawmaker Shah Mehmood Qureshi and requested the chair not to accept the resignation of the PTI parliamentarians.

“They (PTI) also have people's mandate and the situation is heading towards betterment,” he said. Mushahid said that the government had taken a decision on time; today this would not be a big issue. He said that now Pakistan had changed and we have to focus on resolving issues being faced by the masses.

He said that the government had to change mode of governance. He said that now the ball was in the prime minister's court and he had to take a decision in this regard. It was time to change the mindset, he urged the government. Regarding the next week scheduled Chinese President's visit, He said that we had strategic and cordial relations with China.

“China is part of our progress and Pakistan-China Corridor will not only unite various parts of the country but also prosper these areas,” the lawmaker said. He said that it was a reality that there were multiple power centers in Pakistan. “Earlier there were only military and political powers but now a strong and vibrant journalists, independent judiciary and civil society are also considered power centers,” he added.

He said that it was also a reality that the current challenges could not be resolved alone by any political party, the army or the government. It was need of the hour to join hands to address these challenges, he said. Mushahid said that the Indian prime minister, the Turkish and Indonesian presidents succeeded in reaching the power echelon by virtue of serving the general masses.

Praising the prime minister's decision to appoint General Raheel Sharif as Chief of Army Staff, he said that the army chief was a brave and professional solider and had no intention to indulge in politics. He urged the government to bury the past, build a better tomorrow; this nation had a current desire a better future.
