Nisar says he will resign, leave politics if allegations are proven true
APPISLAMABAD - Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said that he would resign as minister and quit politics if it was proved that allegations leveled against him by a senior opposition parliamentarian had even one per cent reality.
"If it is proved that the allegations leveled against me are even one per cent true I will not only resign from the ministry but also leave politics," he said while addressing a press conference here in response to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan's speech in the parliament on Friday. The minister said that a probe should be held into what was said about him and his late brother. The allegations should be investigated by any judge of Aitzaz Ahsan's choosing.
"His yesterday's speech is on parliament's record. I'll request that his speech be considered as an FIR. Appoint whichever judge you want," Nisar added. He said that there should be a tradition that arguments taking place outside should not be brought into the parliament. He said his personal respect was on one side, while the future of Pakistan and democracy was on the other, hence he decided to forgive Friday's events in the parliament.
"My personal feelings and self-respect are not important than Pakistan and democracy. Therefore I decided to forgive," he maintained. Nisar said that he did not criticize the (PPP) or opposition rather a member of the opposition criticized him and he responded to that. "What I had said earlier was only a response to what was said against me before it," he said while referring to Aitzaz Ahsan's statement outside the Supreme Court on Thursday.
He said his loyalty with his party was beyond any doubt, adding that he had been standing with the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) for the past 30 years despite ups and downs.
