KARACHI/ISLAMABAD – Former president and chief of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Pervez Musharraf, his party’s senior vice president Rashid Qureshi and secretary general Dr Amjid said on Sunday that involving the army in the ongoing political tussle was unfortunate.

In their joint statement, they said that the current government was bent upon defaming the army for hiding its own failures. All parties in the parliament have been failed to resolve the issues amicably, they said, adding that the opposition parties instead of bringing out Pakistan from the crisis were saving the chair of Nawaz Sharif.

The APML leaders condemned the killing of son of Ghulam Abbas Kamili and termed it a nefarious effort to spread sectarian hatred in Pakistan at a time when Zarb-e-Azb military operation by the Pakistan Army was continuing in North Waziristan. They urged people from all schools of thought to maintain their unity and foil the plan of the enemy to create chaos in Pakistan and damage the military operation.

Musharraf and his party leaders said that this murder was a coward act of sabotaging the successes gained in the military operation against terrorists. The statement said that the government was destroying the country's economy through its inefficiency at a time when Pakistan was confronted with the calamity of floods. For the first time in the country's history, two political parties were staging sit-in in Islamabad while the government has failed to resolve the issue politically.

Musharraf and his party leaders said that no concrete measure has been taken in the parliament to resolve the issue of sit-ins and political leaders have been doing nothing except mudslinging and character assassination of others. They asked the government to send back the Punjab and Azad Jammu Kashmir Police to their respective areas so that they could play their role in the flood-hit areas. The APML chief directed all the party activists to help the flood affected people.
