Parliament united against PM’s resignation demand: Dar

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated on Wednesday that all the political parties in the parliament stands united against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) demand for prime minister’s resignation.


Addressing the House today, Dar told the members that the government has already agreed upon five demands presented by the protesting parties and told them that the sixth point was non-negotiable. He said that even the parliament is united on the resolve that the prime minister will not resign from his office.

Ishaq Dar, then, presented the details about the dialogue process and told that PTI presented the first draft of demands to the government on August 30 while the government prepared its response after consulting all the political parties on September 4, and the first meeting was held on September 5.

He also said that PTI has alleged that the government has backed off from its commitments which is false.

Dar told the protesting parties that prime minister’s resignation is out of question and told PTI that government wants to go ahead peacefully with the negotiation process. PTI, then, agreed to hold talks on the remaining points.

He termed the three of out of five other points of the PTI as “futuristic”.

The finance minister told that due to sit-ins, several foreign visits were canceled that impacted the economy.

He further told that eight out of ten demanded related to judicial commission were accepted. He said that the final response will be presented after the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today.

He also told the key demand by PAT regarding the registration of Model Town case has also been accepted and the FIR was also lodged. PAT then demanded for Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif’s resignation and they were told that accused can’t be punished until proven guilty. He said that if the allegations proved correct, no body would need to demand for the resignation.

Dar said that talks were also held on the demands of joint investigation, judicial commission and national reform council.
