ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said on Wednesday that participants of sit-ins could not impose their point of view through force and talks were only way to find out an amicable solution.

Talking to private TV channels outside the Parliament House, he said that the participants of the two sit-ins in Islamabad had turned violent a few days ago, but failed to get their demands accepted, so now they have no option but to hold dialogue with the government to discuss their demands.

The minister said in the civilized world when someone takes the law in his own hands, law takes its on course and state institutions come into action and he was taken to task. He said that the government was trying to resolve the issue of sit-ins through political means and expressed hope that it would succeed as it has the support of all political and democratic forces in the parliament.

Pervaiz said that a political solution of the sit-ins would be found and advised the participants of the sit-ins to return home now as their protest has been registered. He said that in every state whenever someone breaks the law of the land, it becomes responsibility of the state to take action. However, the PML-N government has shown maximum restraint and has not used force against the participants of sit-ins, he added.

He said that the process of negotiations with the leadership of both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) was going on and meetings were held at different times in the day. To a question, he said that as the talks process was going on, it was not appropriate to comment pre-maturely on outcome.
