IGP seeks details of journalists working in Punjab

All press clubs in province to be registered, no unverified person can become its member

LAHORE: Punjab Police Inspector General Mushtaq Sukhera has sought details of journalists from all over the province.

According to sources, the IGP has summoned public relation officers (RPOs) of district police officers (DPOs) of 36 districts and ordered them to furnish details of names of journalists, their organisations and phone numbers.

The organisations will verify the documents of their journalists and if not verified or the provision of wrong information, the journalists will be booked for fraud and legal action would be taken against them.

Under the plan, all press clubs in the province will be registered and they would verify their members – no unverified person can become a member of any press club – and no journalist will be eligible to cover a government or private event without a press card or authority letter.
