57 students injured as earthquake strikes Battagram

PESHAWAR: At least 57 students were injured during a stampede in a local school in Battagram as a 4.5-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province early on Monday morning.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), three children who received serious injuries were shifted to district hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The quake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale with a focal depth of 9 kilometres, hit many areas, including Battagram and Muzaffarabad among others, United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

Following tremors, many evacuated their homes and buildings amid fears of further shocks. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported thus far.

Strong tremors were felt across Lahore and adjoining areas last month. The quake hit many areas, including Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Sheikhpura, among others.

The quake measured 4.4 on the Richter scale with a focal depth of 10 kilometres according to the MET department, according to Express News. Following the jolts, residents of the city came out of their houses and buildings in panic.

The earthquake also shook residents in North India, especially Amritsar. According to The Financial Express, tremors were felt in India within hours of an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale hit Surat district in Gujarat Sunday morning.
