Khattak ‘seeds’ first tree of plantation campaign

KP’s chief minister says 222.2m saplings to be planted by end of August

PESHAWAR: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak here on Tuesday planted a Chinar plant in the lawn of Chief Minister House to formally mark tree plantation campaign in the province.

The chief minister speaking on the occasion informed that towards the end of August 2016, a total of 222.2 million plants and saplings were planted, adding the provincial government was doing all out efforts to achieve the target of Billion Tree plantation in the province. He said as many as 13,700 units of private nurseries have been established and towards the end of this year 127,500 acres of land would be brought under plantation while seeds on 23,000 acres of land would be sown.

Pervez said the Billion Tree Tsunami was a success story in the province that would enhance the forest growing areas from present 1.5 million acres of land that would show a sharp increase of 8.4 per cent in the overall forest covered area in the province. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Environment, Ishtiaq Urmar, Secretary Environment and others attended the ceremony.
