No relaxation for corrupt NADRA officials issuing fake CNICs: Nisar

ISLAMABAD:Corrupt NADRA employees involved in issuing bogus identity cards will not be given any relaxation and any undue recommendation in their cases would not be accepted, said Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday.

He said cases had been registered against 18 employees of the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) for 'selling' Pakistani nationality to foreigners.

Eight NADRA employees have been arrested so far while raids are being carried out to arrest the remaining 10 employees.

According to reports, over 45, 000 foreigners were issued Pakistani computerised national identity cards (CNICs) since 2005.

Nadra allegedly issued these cards to nationals of China, United States, India, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Uzbek, Maldives, Morocco, Bangladesh and Burma, putting national security at a great risk.

IN the past five years, NADRA has blocked over 0.23 million suspicious CNICs issued to either foreigners or Pakistanis.
